SCALE: Strengthening Communities for Adaptation, Livelihoods, and Equity

Our Projects

From waste to worth. From vulnerability to voice. Every project SCALE runs is designed to create real, lasting change in the communities we serve.

Environmental & Economic Impact

Beautiful Trash

Turning disposable plastic into products and pathways.

📍 Katikamu, Luweero District📅 Launched September 2025

Globally, only a small share of plastic waste is recycled. In Luweero, blocked drains and damaged land tell a similar story. Beautiful Trash trains young people to turn plastics that are typically used once into useful products, such as dustbins, egg trays, and jewellery, so an environmental burden can also become a source of income.

Fashion with Purpose

Circular fashion. Local enterprise. Less waste.

📍 Luweero District📅 Ongoing

The fashion industry is one of the world's largest polluters. Through Fashion with Purpose, SCALE upcycles clothing that can no longer be worn into new, high-value products. We also offer repair and alteration services, encouraging thoughtful use of what we already own instead of treating clothes as disposable.

Kyangwe and Kyaffe Initiative

Women growing green income from the ground up.

📍 Luweero District📅 Ongoing

This programme focuses on women and girls who grow loofah sponges, a natural, biodegradable product with growing local demand. Beyond cultivation, participants learn how to add value, turning loofah into household goods, decorative pieces, and products they can sell.

Each One, Teach One

Local voices, local climate knowledge, and change that starts in the community.

📍 Luweero District📅 Ongoing

SCALE's cascade model identifies young Community Climate Champions based on their leadership potential. They receive structured training in climate fundamentals, local impacts, adaptation strategies, and communication skills, then carry this knowledge into their communities.

Protect Her

Keeping girls in school. Keeping girls safe.

📍 Luweero District📅 Ongoing

Climate change adds pressure to daily life, and girls often carry the heaviest load. Protect Her answers with education, menstrual hygiene kits, and practical training so girls can make their own reusable sanitary pads. The aim is simple: girls stay in school, stay informed, and feel more prepared for what lies ahead.
